Sound Hole on a drum?
I’m building(attempting to build)my own tubano drum and i was wondering why some Hand Drums have a place for the sound to come out and other don’t…………. wouldn’t a sound hole benefit all of the hand drums by letting the sound out of the enclosed space???
Does it just produce a different sound??
For example why does a tubano or Bongo drums have no bottoms to them so that the sound can get out but then Congas or Djembe’s don’t have holes????
Please help me understand the reasoning behind no having a sound hole or having one for a Hand Drum such as the ones mentioned above.
It does produce a slightly different sound. You can also easily place things inside without taking the Drum Head skin off the dampen/change the sound. It also benefit recording/live performing as a mic can be placed much closer.
